Wonderwall
Oasis, 1995
Oasis released Wonderwall in October 1995 as the fourth single from (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, and in 2020 it became the first song of the 1990s to pass a billion streams on Spotify. Noel Gallagher wrote it, Liam sang it, and the brothers have never agreed on what it is really about. Couples pick it for a first dance because it is a song everyone in the room knows word for word, so the moment turns into a full singalong rather than a quiet performance, and the mid tempo strum is easy to move to. The title comes from Wonderwall Music, George Harrison's 1968 film soundtrack album, after the song began life as Wishing Stone.
