Hot Stuff

Donna Summer, 1979

Hot StuffDonna Summer

Donna Summer, the voice of Giorgio Moroder's Munich disco productions, released Hot Stuff in April 1979 as the first single from Bad Girls. It is less a love song than a demand, and that is why couples with a sense of humour use it: the first dance becomes a wink to the room. The rock guitar gives it more bite than most disco, which suits a live band with a decent guitarist. For a British audience it will always be the dole queue scene in The Full Monty. Jeff Baxter of The Doobie Brothers played the solo, and the song won the first Grammy ever given for best female rock vocal.
