FaithfullyJourney

Journey, the San Francisco band whose anthems defined early 1980s American radio, released Faithfully in 1983 on the album Frontiers. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain wrote it on a napkin on the tour bus, thinking about the strain of being away from his wife, and the lyric is a promise to keep coming home. Couples choose it because it is about loyalty over distance and time rather than a first meeting, and the slow piano led opening gives a dance a clear, gentle start before the guitars arrive. Prince once rang Cain to check that his own song Purple Rain did not sound too close to it, and Cain told him it was fine.
