Dead in the Water
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, 2017
Noel Gallagher formed the High Flying Birds after Oasis split in 2009, and Dead in the Water, released in 2017 as a bonus track on Who Built the Moon?, is the quietest thing he has put out. It was captured by accident at RTÉ 2FM's studios in Dublin, between takes of another song, when Gallagher began singing a tune he had written a couple of nights earlier without realising he was being recorded. He has never released a studio version and says he prefers to leave it that way. Couples pick it because the lyric about a love that refuses to drown suits a slow, unshowy dance, and because it gives Oasis fans a less obvious Gallagher song.
