Can't Help Falling in Love

Kina Grannis, a Californian singer who built her audience on YouTube after winning a Doritos Super Bowl contest, recorded this stripped back version of the Elvis Presley classic for the film Crazy Rich Asians, released in August 2018. She appears on screen too, singing it at the wedding as the bride walks through a flooded aisle. Her reading drops the original's grandeur for a single guitar and a vocal so soft it almost breaks, and it has replaced the 1961 recording for many couples who wanted the lyric without the Las Vegas gloss. The melody comes from an eighteenth century French love song, Plaisir d'amour, which gives the whole thing an older heart than its pop history suggests.
