Leon Bridges, the Texan soul singer who was washing dishes in Fort Worth before his first demos drew label interest, released Beyond in 2018 on his second album, Good Thing. The record moved him from 1960s soul towards a more modern R&B sound. The lyric describes a man who has just met someone and is already picturing marriage and a shared life, which is why engaged couples hear themselves in it. The relaxed mid tempo swing and acoustic guitar suit a dance without steps. Bridges has said he wrote it after a woman he was casually dating told him she loved him, and the single has been certified platinum in America.
