Best Part

Daniel Caesar, the Toronto singer who grew up singing in his father's church, released Best Part in 2017 on his debut album Freudian, with the American singer H.E.R. sharing the vocal. The two voices trade verses about being each other's favourite part of the day, and that conversational structure is exactly why couples choose it: it feels like something they might say to each other rather than a performance. The gentle guitar and slow pulse suit a short, close dance. Caesar had built his following through two independent EPs before the album, and Best Part went on to win the Grammy for best R&B performance in 2019.
