Sons and Daughters
Allman Brown & Liz Lawrence, 2013
Allman Brown was born and raised in Hong Kong, moved to London at eleven and built his following as an independent artist, so his name rarely reaches beyond the streaming playlists where his music quietly thrives. Sons and Daughters came out in 2013 as a duet with fellow Londoner Liz Lawrence, who co wrote it, and its EP built the momentum that led to his 2017 debut album 1000 Years. It opens on a single guitar figure and two voices trading promises about growing old together, then lifts gently without ever becoming loud, which suits couples who want intimacy rather than spectacle. Many couples have already used it as their wedding song.
