Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Dean Martin, 1959
Dean Martin recorded his version for the 1959 Capitol album A Winter Romance, and it is now the recording most people hear in shops and films from November onwards. The lyric is not about Christmas at all but about two people happy to be snowed in together, which is a neat fit for a couple who have just married in December and have nowhere else to be. The easy swing tempo suits a relaxed, slightly tipsy first dance with a few turns in it. Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote the song in July 1945 during a Californian heatwave, hoping that imagining a blizzard might cool them down.
