Kiss Me
Sixpence None the Richer, 1997
Sixpence None the Richer, a Texas band led by singer Leigh Nash and songwriter Matt Slocum, first released Kiss Me in 1997 on their self titled third album, and it became a worldwide hit when it was issued as a single in 1998. The band took its name from a passage in C S Lewis, and Slocum wrote the song in a motel in the Netherlands. Couples choose it because the lyric is a flirtatious invitation to dance under the moon and the tempo is light and quick, suited to a couple who want to twirl rather than sway. Its use in She's All That and Dawson's Creek made it the sound of late nineties teen romance.
