Home

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros were a sprawling Los Angeles collective built around Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos, and Home, from their 2009 debut Up from Below, is a duet between the two of them. It swings along on whistling and trumpet, and the central idea, that home is a person rather than a place, is exactly what many couples want to say in front of their families. The upbeat tempo makes it a first dance for pairs who want guests on their feet quickly. A spoken section in the middle, where the two recall her fall from his window, often raises a laugh. Ebert and Castrinos were a couple when they wrote it, and the fall really happened.
