Gotta Have You

The Weepies are Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, two singer songwriters who met as fans of each other's solo records at a show in Cambridge, Massachusetts, made their first album unsigned and then joined the independent Canadian label Nettwerk. Gotta Have You appeared on their 2006 album Say I Am You and became their quiet calling card, helped by a placement in How I Met Your Mother. It is a brisk acoustic shuffle rather than a ballad, admitting that life is confusing before settling on the one person who makes it bearable, so couples who find slow dances awkward can sway to it without feeling stiff. They recorded the album in the bedroom of their Pasadena home.
