Christmas Dreaming

Laufey, the Icelandic Chinese jazz singer who has brought a new generation to the Great American Songbook, released her version of Christmas Dreaming in November 2023 on her holiday EP A Very Laufey Holiday. The song is not an original: Irving Gordon and Lester Lee wrote it in 1947, the year Frank Sinatra recorded it. Her version opens with sweeping strings and soft piano under layered harmonies, and couples who want a vintage feeling without a vintage recording choose it for exactly that reason. It suits a close hold and a slow sway. The EP arrived a few months before her album Bewitched won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
