Chasing Cars
Snow Patrol, 2006
Snow Patrol released Chasing Cars in 2006 on their fourth album Eyes Open, and in 2019 it was named the most played song on UK radio of the century so far. Gary Lightbody wrote the lyric in a single night in the garden of producer Jacknife Lee's house in Kent, and the title came from a remark by his father about pointlessly pursuing a girl, like a dog chasing cars. Couples choose it because the chorus asks the other person to lie down and forget the world, and the song builds very slowly from almost nothing. The tempo is a steady mid pace that makes a simple swaying dance look intentional.
